There are plenty of niches like the one in the featured image in Gozo and generally in the Maltese Islands. Even if this kind of structure is not so frequent.

This is in Ghasri, at a junction of four roads: Triq Il-Knisja,  Triq Iz-Zebbug, Triq Salvu Gambin and Triq Il-Wilga.

The language of the affixed plaque is Italian and this is  not strange as Italian has been official language here until 1936, but this is another story.
